Evolution of design and architecture is often accelerated by needs of specific landscapes and unique obstacles presented by local weather in different parts of the globe. Designed to withstand frequent typhoons that are all too common in the region has an innovative silhouette and a specially crafted courtyard that act like a ‘chimney’ for the passage of high speed winds. Located in Kochi Prefecture Japan and conjured up by Container Design it is this distinct feature that protects the home from on gusty days even while ensuring the ambiance inside is left undisturbed.
It is locally sourced granite glass and wood that shapes the open and inviting holiday home. The living area kitchen and dining flow into one end of the private courtyard with the natural structure of the house and large overhangs creating sheltered verandahs.
Blurring the traditional lines between the interior and the outdoors a series of large glass walls and sliding glass doors shape the spacious living area. A modern kitchen sits on one side of the living space while the master bedroom is located at the other end.
It is the kitchen dining area and living space that sit on the main level and flow into the garden and alfresco dining area. A staircase leads to the private lower level with bedrooms home office and a media room that feel equally enchanting and far more inviting. A mountaintop house that is as exciting as the view it offers!
The courtyard sits at the heart of the house and a ventilation duct on the second floor brings in light and natural breeze. While hitting the house is gently drawn into the courtyard it is the slightly curved outward roof of the south side that directs the air outside. This also helps in cooling the house naturally on less boisterous days!
The bright color of the fence marvelously accompanies the pastel tone of the house’s exterior and its white trim. It’s obvious this color palette is harmonious and stunning! A big family house overtakes the space appearing almost as majestic as the trees surrounding it. The white picket fence gives it a friendlier feeling and creates a subtle barrier between the passersby and property itself.
Despite its contemporary aesthetics the colorful zest inside the house definitely gives it an eclectic-modern vibe even as ARKITITO Arquitetura did their absolute best to cut back on construction costs and wastage of space. Even with a concrete and steel structure and an interior covered in cement blocks there is plenty of vivacious brilliance everywhere you look!
