2013 Commonwealth Motors Christmas Classic set for Dec. 21, 23, 27, and 28.
The former Greater Lawrence tournament, in its 39th year, has a new name, but promises to be the same high quality basketball we have come to expect. This year's edition features 16 teams (8 boys/8 girls) and highlights some powerhouse programs along with some high profile players.
Headlining the boys side of the bracket will be Central Catholic and Andover in the Licare Division. Both teams have a great combination of coaching, player experience, and talent to be favorites in DI all season. In the Hixon Division, two intriguing teams will be Methuen and North Andover. Both get new head coaches in Anthony Faradie and Paul Tsanglis respectively and Tsanglis once worked for Faradie when they were at Medford.
Licare Division: Central Catholic, Andover, Lawrence, Pinkerton
Hixon Division: Methuen, North Andover, Salem, Whittier
On the girls side, Central Catholic and Andover look to be the front runners in their divisions, but lurking in the Stephenson Division will be DCL power Westford Academy looking to upset.
Stephenson Division: Central Catholic, Westford, North Andover, Pinkerton
Hyde Division: Andover, Lawrence, Methuen, Salem
Some players to keep an eye on early include Early Letter of Intent signees Tyler Nelson of Central Catholic going to Farfield and on the girls side a couple of Stonehill signees in Central Catholic's Courtney Walsh and Westord Academy's Sam Hyslip
